Obituary

Lee D. Staaf, age 91, of Gloucester and formerly of Woburn, passed away on October 3, 2026. He was the beloved husband for 59 years of Reinette E. (McDonough) until her death in 2018. In recent years he was the beloved companion of Theresa M. Airasian of Gloucester.

Born, raised and educated in Winchester, Lee was a graduate of Winchester High School with the class of 1954. He was the son of the late Dorothy Field (Staaf) and Richard Staaf. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably during the Korean War where he served as an aviation electrician. He traveled to many locations while proudly serving his country. He was in a Patrol Squadron and ultimately stationed at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick, Maine. Upon discharge, he returned home and married the love of his life, Reinette, and attended Northeastern University at night while working days at Lincoln Labs and supporting his growing family. He earned his degree in Electrical Engineering and went on to have a long successful career in his field.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his loving family and many friends and relatives at Long Beach, Gloucester where he and Reinette permanently made their home in 2003. Before that, they spent many years living in Woburn raising their family. He had his fingers in many things during those years, from woodworking, building things and fixing literally anything from cars to appliances to home remodel projects to coaching his son in Little League and hockey as well as a Cub Master for Cub Scouts. Gloucester was a place of great fun for Lee and Reinette, from gatherings on the beach to endless deck parties up and down the street. Lots of wonderful memories have been made throughout the years.

In his later retirement years, Lee was a valued member of the Rockport Road ROMEO’s (Retired Old Men Eating Out). He was also a member of the Elks in Gloucester where many a meal had been shared. Lee enjoyed gardening, puttering around his workbench, traveling, cruising and always looked forward to his winter trip to Naples, FL with Reinette and other family and friends.

Lee is lovingly survived by his children: Susan E. Lewandoski and her husband David of Hollis, NH, Marcia L. Corsino and her husband Michael of Burlington, MA and Timothy G. Staaf and his wife Kimberly of Gilford, NH. He was the cherished grandfather of Rachel and Jillian Lewandoski, Matthew (and his fiancé Alison Grimes), Brendan and Carolyn Corsino, Katrina and Patrick (and his fiancé Klaudia Doko) Staaf. He was the dear brother of Caron Quick of Clarksville, MO. Lee is also survived by his loving and cherished companion Theresa Airasian and his many close friends and relatives.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, from from 10:00 am – 12 noon, with a Prayer Service to follow at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lee’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Lung Association. His children appreciate all the love and support and friendship you gave to our dad over his lifetime.
