Obituary
Malvin J. "Mal" Dougherty, M.D., age 89, passed away on October 17, 2017 at his Winchester, MA home with his beloved wife of 55 years Patricia (Lynch) Dougherty by his side. Born on Long Island, NY and raised in Shenandoah, PA, Mal was a graduate of St. Joseph's College and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He served as an Air Force Captain and flight surgeon in Thule, Greenland, and then completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital before settling in Penn Valley and establishing his career in private practice and surgery at Will's Eye Hospital and Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Patricia Clewley, her husband Timothy, and three grandsons, William, John, and Scott of Winchester, MA, and his daughter-in-law Janice Foust of Portsmouth, NH. Mal was predeceased by his son, Thomas P. Dougherty, his brother, Thomas J. Dougherty, and his parents, Thomas Dougherty and Stella (Ormsby) Dougherty.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Saint John Vianney Church in Gladwyne, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Edmond's Home for Children, 320 South Roberts Road, Rosemont, PA 19010 or Wills Eye Hospital 840 Walnut Street Philadelphia, PA 19107.
