Obituary
Marian Van Duzee Palmer, born August 21, 1926, passed peacefully, surrounded by her children, at the Arnold House in Stoneham, MA, on Thursday April 10th, 2008. Mrs. Palmer had been a lung cancer survivor for just short of two years. Born in Hamburg, NY, Mrs. Palmer attended school in Boulder at the University of Colorado and later worked in advertising in Manhattan while living in Montclair, NJ. She married Richard C. Palmer, an electrical engineer working in the field of television, and moved to Montgomery Township, NJ in 1960. Mrs. Palmer was active in civic affairs and had a specific interest in history and preservation. She worked on and chaired Montgomery's Bicentennial Committee, and served on the Board of Adjustment and Landmarks Commission. Widowed in 1985, she pursued her interest in astronomy in her later years,auditing courses at Princeton University and participating in Star Quests as a member of the Amateur Astronomers Association of Princeton. After diagnosis and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, she split her time between the Gables of Winchester and her 1730's farmhouse in New Jersey. A son and daughter-in-law, Randy Palmer and Caren Connelly of Winchester, MA, a daughter and daughter-in-law, Kim Palmer and Marty Harvey of Alpharetta, GA, and a superior grandchild, Catherine Palmer, also of Winchester, survive her. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 13th at 2:00 PM at the Gables of Winchester, 299 Cambridge St. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations in Marian's memory may be made to the Winchester Foundation for Educational Excellence (wfee.org) P.O. Box 1005 Winchester, MA 01890.
