Obituary

Marie T. Ambessi, a longtime resident of Winchester, passed away peacefully and lovingly surrounded by her family on August 3, 2026.

Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Nazzarena (Molina) Ambessi. She was raised and educated in New Jersey, ultimately moving to Winchester with her family.

Marie worked for many years as an accountant and bookkeeper for Graybar in Boston. It was there that she formed many professional and personal relationships that lasted throughout her lifetime.

Lovingly known as “Auntie” among her many nieces and nephews and called “Maddie” within her tightknit family, she delighted in her many relatives and their times together. Her nieces shared how they excitedly anticipated the trips to the “Ice Capades” and other special adventures when they were young and how she would never forget a birthday. She also enjoyed talking on the phone with her many friends.

Marie will be remembered for her sharp mind. Her nieces joked that she could always be relied upon to remind them to renew their drivers’ licenses and car registrations before the deadlines approached, which they attribute to her exceptional memory. To relax her busy and efficient mind, Marie unwound with “her shows” – a favorite soap opera or two. She also prayed the rosary and attended mass regularly at St. Mary’s Church. In later years, she watched Mass on Catholic TV.

One of 6 children, Maddie is lovingly survived by her sister, Kathryn Perritano of Winchester. She was pre-deceased by her siblings: Margaret “Maggie” Sheerin, Frank Ambessi, Carmine “Charlie” Ambessi and George Ambessi. She is lovingly survived by her devoted nieces Judy Perritano, Jamie Marie Clare, JoAnn Perritano and many other nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and a great-nephew.

A Visitation will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 8:30-9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s memory may be made to the Catholic TV Network P.O. Box 9196, 34 Chestnut St., Watertown, MA 02471. www.catholictv.org
