Maureen E. (Queen) Fay, age 61, a lifelong resident of Winchester, passed away on March 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born and raised in Winchester, she was the beloved daughter of Angela (Dempsey) Queen of Winchester and the late Thomas H. Queen, Jr. She attended Winchester public schools and graduated from Winchester High School, Class of 1982. She went on to work as an insurance agent at several local agencies, taking pride in her work and the relationships she built along the way.
Maureen lived her life with passion, energy, and heart. She had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in hiking, boating, and camping in the mountains of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. She cherished quiet moments as much as lively ones, often watching the sunrise at Hampton Beach with a cup of coffee in hand.
She was known for her vibrant spirit - fierce, feisty, and full of life. Whether through music, dancing, or simply her presence, Maureen had a way of lighting up any room. She was kind, generous, and never afraid to speak her mind or stand up for what mattered.
Above all, Maureen’s greatest pride and joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the center of her world. She lived for them, loved them deeply, and found her greatest happiness in being their Nana.
Maureen is lovingly survived by her children: Paul Fay and his wife Mariana of Cheshire, MA; Rachel Pickering and her husband Jonathan of Arlington; John Fay and his fiancé Johanna of Hudson, MA; and Brian Fay and his girlfriend Emma of Medford. She was the devoted Nana of Leah Allen, Trinity Cruz-Mercado, Jackson Pickering, and Harper Pickering.
She was the seventh of nine children and is survived by her siblings: Regina Viner of Tewksbury, Thomas M. Queen of New Boston, NH, Daniel R. Queen of San Diego, CA, Mary Jane McDonagh of Wilmington, David A. Queen of Lunenburg, Laura Queen of Woburn, and Paula Queen of Winchester, and was predeceased by her brother Stephen P. Queen. She is also survived by her goddaughters Allyson Mistretta and Paula Mistretta, her godson David Queen, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Maureen will be remembered for her warmth, her strength, her unmistakable spirit, and the love she gave so freely to everyone around her.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Saturday, March 28 at 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 12 noon. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maureen’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
